Trapped in Another Person's Body

He was born to be a writer. Would he ever live the dream?

The young man was a bricklayer. At least, that's what he did for a living. Every day he'd get up, make coffee and sandwiches, then trudge out to his car to join the gridlock. He worked two four-hour shifts a day, sometimes more, putting up immaculate walls of red and white brick.

During the summer, he roasted along with all his co-workers. During the winter, he froze. He bricked on still days, windy days, and rainy days. All the while, as he patiently put up walls, he thought about writing.

During his breaks, and at night, he wrote stories. Mostly they were stories about what he'd seen. Once he saw a young woman walking by with a small dog, and while the other workers oggled her legs, he imagined the kind of life she must lead. Then that night he wrote a story about it.

That's all he wanted to be, a writer. Wanted it ever since he was a kid, when he discovered that his teachers loved the stories he told. He was on his way to college when a tragedy struck--his mother suffered a debilitating kidney disease, and he stayed home to help his father out.

To make money, he worked construction, and grew into a towering man of physical and emotional strength.

Time passed, and his mother got better, but now he felt trapped by his circumstances. There were bills to pay, and his body ached from all the hard work, but still the hunger was there.

Sound Familiar?

Your own story is probably not as dramatic as this young man's, but in other ways, it's similar. You've got an idea, a desire, but no notion how to make any of it a reality. Even if you've got all the time in the world and talent to spare, the odds aren't in your favor.

It seems like thousands of new books get published every week. Agents and book editors are overwhelmed with proposals, manuscripts, and ideas. They have to be very careful about choosing the right project because publishers are in the business of making money. Think about it: why should they even pay attention to you?

So there you stand with an idea in your head or a proposal in your hand, and you have no idea how to even get started. And if you could get past all the guardians at the gate, what do you do then?

Well....you've got two choices in the matter. You can keep trying on your own, or you can get help. If you want to go back to banging your head against the wall, be our guest, or you can give our little product a try. Let me explain.

See, back in summer 2007, Tom Myer and Thom Singer were sitting together at a sales conference and chatting about the writing game. Together, these two guys had written four or five books and dozens of other things besides. They thought it would be great to put together a series of recorded teleseminars that walked newbie writers through the process of getting published for the very first time.

So over the course of three weeks in the Fall of 2007, Thom and Tom recorded over three hours of audio instruction. They talked about a bunch of things, most notably:

This is all pretty bread and butter so far. However, before you think this is some cut-and-dry lecture, they also went on to talk about things that really cut to the bone for most writers. Topics like:

After listening to these three hours of audio, we guarantee that you'll be able to get your writing career off to a good start. In fact, we're so confident about our guarantee that we're willing to back it up. If, after listening to this tape, and trying every idea that you hear, and you're still not getting anywhere with your book or proposal after 90 days, just contact us, and we'll review your materials, for one hour, for free!

Who says these guys are any good?

Good question. Experts pop up around every corner. These guys are the real deal, though. Let's see what you think when get a load of their backgrounds.

Thom Singer is an Austin-based expert in branding, positioning and networking, and has worked in sales and marketing capacities at several Fortune 500 companies.

His first book, Some Assembly Required, was a smash hit that resonated with small business owners across America. His second book, The ABC's of Networking guides consultants, small business owners, and sales professionals in the art of networking.

Thomas Myer is a technical book author and consultant also based out of Austin, TX. He's ghostwritten scores of articles, case studies, white papers, and even ebooks for his clients.

He's also the author of two technical books, No-Nonsense XML Web Development with PHP and Lead Generation on the Web. Recently, he signed a contract with Wiley to write a book on CodeIgniter (forthcoming in 2008).

In other words, these guys know what they're talking about. They'll use their experience in the world of publishing, self-publishing, and writing to guide you to success. Throughout the presentation, they back up what they say with examples from their own experience and what's happening out in the industry. Their approach is casual, informative, and humorous.

Wait a minute...what About the Brick Layer?

At this point, we would be lying if we said that our hard-working bricklayer dreaming of the wordsmithing life listened to our audio and became an overnight publishing success. If we did say that, or even implied it in any way, you'd be correct in giving us a swift kick in the behind.

No, our young man is still working very hard with the bricks, but now he has a plan. Instead of scribbling in his journals or plucking story ideas out of thin air, he now knows what it takes to put together a winning proposal. Instead of something out of character, he's chosen to write an expose on the homebuilding industry--think of it as a bit of inspiration from Tony Bourdain, best-selling author of Kitchen Confidential.
